UNESCO Munakata Taisha Autumn Festival

Pixel Pulse Media undertook a project backed by UNESCO and the Fukuoka local government to produce a 42 min TV episode showcasing the Munakata area and the surrounding city of Fukuoka.

This was a full stack production planned from the offset to completion in post entirely by Pixel Pulse. The 11 days on the ground coincided with the Rugby World Cup 2019 with Fukuoka City scheduled to host 3 of the pool games.

Throughout ancient history, Munakata and the surrounding islands were the main trading port between Japan, China, and Korea; so you can imagine the rivers here used to be laden with cargo-filled ships for thousands of years. Amazingly,

we found we could paddle ourselves down the old trading routes and follow in the wake of the ancient traders. As it happens, stand up paddle boarding is actually catching on in a big way in Japan -- maybe because it’s quite easy to learn and so versatile -- you can paddle in the surf, on the open sea, or somewhere like this: down Munakata’s own Tsuri River.
